Parent/Family Involvement
We’ve all heard that Parent/Family Involvement plays an important part in creating a successful learning environment for our children. A 2008 study, out of the University of New Hampshire, found “that schools would need to increase per-pupil spending by more than $1,000 in order to achieve the same results that are gained with parental involvement” according to Karen Smith Conway, a Professor of Economics and one of the study’s researchers.
PTA has established 6 National Standards for Family-School Partnership based on 40 years of research that will help you and your school increase involvement that ultimately leads to greater student achievement. When implementing these standards, know that it’s not a person’s race, class or educational background that influences student achievement, but rather your presence that is so important.
Parent/Family Involvement is a broad area. Our committee will focus on:
-
Why Parent/Family Involvement is important and practical ways you can increase it at your school, and
-
Parent/Family learning opportunities to help students succeed in school.
