Advocating for Children – Building a Community

Driver’s Education

The ECCC PTA recommends all new drivers to participate in a driving instruction program. It is extremely important for our children to understand the responsibilities associated with driving a vehicle. Driving is a privilege but a huge responsibility in aspects of defensive driving and environmental distractions. Parents, please make sure your child has the best success possible in preparing them for the responsibility of driving. Below is one opportunity provided recently for upcoming Driver’s Education:

In honor of America Recycles Day on November 15, the Mt Bethel Green Team, under the leadership of Annamarie Granros, held its annual "Trashy Art Show" in November. There were 24 entries that made extremely creative use of plastics, paper, motorcycle parts (!), household items and other "stuff". Prizes were awarded by grade and for "Best in Show" and were presented at a reception.  Annamarie commented that the show "is a wondeful way for students to express their creativity while also looking at ‘trash’ in a whole new light." Congrats to all of the students who submitted entires and we can’t wait for the 2010 show!

Parent/Family Involvement

The East Cobb County Council PTA Parent Involvement Committee is hosting an informational meeting on the

Parent 2 Parent program by The Passage Group

Wednesday, November 11, 2009, 9:30 a.m.

Held at the Mountain View Library, 3320 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta , GA 30066-4743

Learn how to bring this powerful parenting program to your school!

Parent-To-Parent creates a positive parent network within your school that counters the challenges of today’s toxic culture. It addresses core issues such as drugs, sex, violence, bullying, and more, honestly and directly. It helps parents understand they are not alone in setting and enforcing acceptable behavior.

ECCC and the Cobb County Prevention Intervention Center have worked together to bring this program to your school free of charge. Participating parents pay a nominal fee to buy materials they keep and can use at home. The program was created by Bill Oliver, a former Walton High School parent after his daughter was involved in drugs. Bonnie Brand, an experienced Parent 2 Parent facilitator will come to your school to help facilitate your group.

All are welcome, especially PTA presidents, Officers and/or Board members, Parent/Family Involvement Chairs and interested parents.

This program is best suited for 5th grade – High School, especially the Middle School transition years.

Please rsvp to Stephanie Holden at involvement@ecccpta.org by November 9.
